It’s always interesting when you ask a young person what they want to be when they grow up and compare their answer to the reality that emerges years later.
Eugene Mirka, after graduating from high school had no idea that one day he would be a prominent and successful realtor in Niagara. It wasn’t on his radar. He began in the restaurant business, first as a cook at a Howard Johnson’s chain, where he soon became a kitchen manager, and then the restaurant manager where along with overseeing staff he was responsible for hiring, training and scheduling.
Over time Eugene decided he needed to explore other options and so accepted a position at the Dry Docks in St. Catharines, first as a pipe fitter and then onto the rigging department.
But back in the early 80’s there were cycles of layoffs and re-hires. Eugene felt he needed something more stable if he was going to support a young family. On a chance he answered an ad for real estate sales, and from that moment on there was no looking back.
Eugene went to work for a local independent real estate firm where he worked hard, developed a system of prospecting and soon rose to be one of the very prominent salespeople in the area. So much so that when RE/MAX Garden City Realty opened its doors in St. Catharines and began hiring the cream of the crop, Eugene was among the first to join up.
No doubt Eugene developed excellent people skills in the hospitality industry along with a solid work ethic. Both traits that would serve him well in his life career. But it is Eugene’s natural ability to engage with people that really sets him above the crowd. He listens, he cares. When he connects with a client, he signs on to provide the best service he can to meet that persons needs and help them achieve their goals and realize their dreams.
And that’s why for over 35 years now clients come back to Eugene again and again. And that’s why they encourage their friends and family to do the same.
